Throughout highschool I always enjoyed reading and studying Shakespearian plays, despite the fact that most people found them both dull and confusing. I think what I found most appealing was the language and the characters; the language being both balanced and flowing, while the characters, although some having quite notable faults, often had redeeming qualities as well, which I grew to admire.

In particular, my two favourite plays (and quotes) have always been:

Romeo and Juliet

ACT I PROLOGUEexternal image Romeo-Juliet-Dicaprio_l.jpgTwo households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands UNCLEAN. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life; Whole misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents' strife. The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love, And the continuance of their parents' rage, Which, but their children's end, nought could remove, Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage; The which if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

and

Othello

IAGO

SCENE III
Reputation is an idle and most false imposition; oft got without merit and lost without deserving.

IAGO
SCENE III
O! beware, my lord, of jealousy;
It is the green-ey'd monster which doth mock
The meat it feeds on.

Moving on from Shakespeare...

Here is a clip of Yiruma - River Flows in You.

It was recently heard being played at uni and was given the privilage of being chosen by some as a possible soundtrack which could be played in the background during emotional/momentous times and events in life. Good choice I say as I really enjoy listening to this piece of music (and its not because it became "Bella's Lullaby" for the Twilight film!!). I find that instrumental music allows your mind to wander. It doesn't force a story onto you, but rather, lets you create your own. Enjoy :)
